Since the news broke in the middle of last week, that Melamine has been detected in Chinese Organic Soya Expellers in France and Holland, Straights Direct have arranged for deliveries made during October and November 2008 to be sampled and tested for Melamine.
From the 1st December 2008 (until further notice) all loads will be sampled for analysis.
Our Organic Chinese Soya Expeller is sourced from crushers in
China, all of whom have GMP or equivalent. Each of our shippers suppliers was
inspected and approved by the Chinese authorities (CIQ) at the end of 2007/early
2008, when the CIQ conducted a programme of inspections, with specific reference
to melamine, covering all the crushers. In addition they have been audited by
one of the European organic accreditation companies such as Ecocert or IMO. Our
shippers are accredited by the Organic Food Federation.
The crushers in China are obliged to have their material tested for melamine prior to shipment, and the soya is only released for export on achieving a negative result, for which CIQ then issue a certificate. The certificates are maintained on file. Random tests for melamine at discharge, and following the recent incidents of trace amounts being detected in France and Holland, the intensity of sampling and analysis has been increased, so that a comprehensive testing programme in place.
